A Client's Process Through Energy Medicine

I recently worked with a man who gave me permission to share his experience through a session plan in which we created together. For the purposes of this article I will not be using the clients actual name. I will use the name John in order to create privacy around the energy healing sessions that we moved through together. John hoped that sharing his experience would help someone else who has been through similar life situations. All of these sessions were based on utilizing energy medicine as we slowly addressed the chief complaints through energetic adjustments and helping John to feel and support the vibrational tones within his physical experience. John was seeking sessions to work through a high level of fear around being alone, frequent bouts of anxiety, and consistent highs and lows with his emotional energy. Through the short time we worked together, John was able to re establish self-trust, a feeling of comfort in his own skin, and a feeling of confidence in his life and choices. In this article I will be going over the first three sessions of a six-session plan in order to highlight how adjustments were made to the energetic field and the focus on body sensation for John to support his healing process during appointments.

The First Session: Re-Connecting Through Energy Healing

Finding warmth through reconnection

Finding warmth through reconnection

In our first Energy Healing Session John expressed feeling tension and nervousness about beginning the process of healing. As we moved through the session I encouraged him to gently become aware of his nervousness. He described the feeling as cold and distant and felt this sensation in his chest and throat.  As John was gently instructed to notice the feeling he began to talk about the coldness of his childhood being similar to the current feelings. As he continued to become aware of the physical experience of this coldness, he was brought back to the sensation and was invited to describe more of his story. He created the context of being alone through the description of neglectful and absent parents. In the session John felt tearful in remembering his past neglect as a child and was continually guided back to his physical feelings, John noticed a slight change in the sensation as the coldness was replaced by warmth in the physical space of his neck and chest. He was feeling the presence of his own attention in relation to coldness, which created warmth and release. Although the coldness was still present John was finding more comfort in feeling his body in relation to his past. I then asked John to reinforce the experience of warmth with a similar physical experience from his past. John described his Grandmother and the safety he felt in her home, a place where he was always listened to and could share his worries and concerns about his life with his parents.  John was encouraged to feel this dance between warmth and coldness and to give himself permission to feel these two energies coming together. Through this dynamic John was able to provide a similar space that was given to him by his Grandmother. A space to listen, allow, and accept the feelings of tension that slowly shifted toward a sense of warmth, which he acknowledged in his throat and chest. At the close of the energy healing session he was asked to practice placing his left hand on his chest when he noticed the feelings of coldness or disconnection. This gave him a practice around connecting and tracking his feelings in order to bring connection back to his felt experience.

The Second Session: Processing The Energy In Relation To Trauma

In this energy healing session, John discussed wanting to address a trauma that was currently affecting his life. He described his chief complaint being a deep-seated fear of being alone and a lack of trust within himself.  John was instructed to lie down on the massage table in my office to work with the physical components of the energy. We used simple adjustments with gentle pressure and working with the energetic field at a distance from the physical body. As I assessed John’s energy and saw a patterning around the chest and throat. I asked John if he had experienced any sort of trauma in the area of the throat. He said yes and talked about the specifics of this trauma. He mentioned the trauma being in direct relationship with his fear of being alone. In the session I began to adjust the energy by slowly moving my hands three to four inches above his throat as I gently shifted the energy in relation to this trauma up and over his face and away from his body. John began to feel the incredible waves of energy as shakiness, trembling, tears, and tension began to arise in his body. John was encouraged to feel and allow this experience, as the natural way in which the body releases held energy. As John shared, expressed, and processed this physical release it became clear that there was a mirroring with this event and his previous session. Being alone and neglected and not feeling connected to others. In the current adjustment he described these similar dynamics of being alone, distant, and unable to ask for help and support during this time of trauma. Working in the area of the throat showed the holding pattern of silence and isolation. He expressed not being able to ask for help in relation to the trauma in which he experienced. John was guided to feel the changing sensations and described an incredible opening in the area of his throat. He described a feeling of warmth as it shifted away from the shaky and trembling experience. John was able to embrace the incredible rush of sensation and energy as I worked on the area of his throat. I then gently asked John about his mother and what this brought to the surface in relation to trauma. He acknowledged my question and grappled with it, as I gave him space to consider the question I placed my hand three inches above his chest.  He then let out a sigh and a deep breath, he said “yes my adopted mother, she is always checking in with me.” He then felt the sensation of his chest as he acknowledged a deep desire to let her know that he was ok now. He then felt the warmth in his chest as he expressed the relief in knowing that he could now reach out to some one he loved, he was not silent or alone anymore. I then gently guided John toward feeling the solidity of his body as I closed the session. Through the session John was always brought into his physical feeling as we touched on details of his story and was encouraged to pay attention to the healing shifts in the session. These shifts arrived as a freedom to express his feelings, noticing the warmth and opening that replaced coldness in his throat and chest, and being able to reach out to his mother for connection. These were all changes that were not present for him during his trauma and offered him and new perspective for healing. At the close of the session he was encouraged to stick with his practice of placing his hand on his chest for re connection. John left the session with a deep desire to reach out to his mother to let her know he was doing well.

The Third Session: A New Found Freedom Of Expression

 Excitement For Life

 Excitement For Life

As John walked into my office for his next session; I could see a noticeable difference in his demeanor. He was softer, more present, and had a lightness about him. I asked him how he was doing at the start of the session and he acknowledged feeling more comfortable in his own skin. John was encouraged to feel and rest in this sensation. Feeling the chest and throat again through this positive experience, while also feeling the sensation of coldness that was less profound but still present. John was instructed to gently and slowly acknowledge the remaining feeling of coldness. After some time of being with this sensation, John recalled a memory of being alone in his room as a child. In the room he felt cold and isolated, which mirrored the experience of the previous two sessions. In this session he is guided toward looking deeper at this little boy, alone in his room. He related this experience to his chest and throat as he was asked to slow down and feel. I then instructed John to move toward the little boy that he recalled through an image. As he embraced the feelings of the little boy he was guided toward saying something to this part of himself. He said to the little boy, “I am here and it's ok now.” John feels the tears of his embrace of the little boy alone in his room. John comments on the relief of knowing that the little boy will never be alone again. I gently encouraged John to guide the little boy out of this room, and he saw himself sitting down with his sisters playing games. John then watched himself playing with his family and recalls memories such as camping trips with his parents and sisters. John is able to remember happy memories from his childhood that did not mirror the pain of isolation. Through embracing the feelings alone in his room, John was able to create a more detailed picture of the positive and negative experiences from his childhood.  He was then gently guided toward feeling the physical sensation of his body, he is instructed to re orient himself to the present moment with me in my office and he describes feeling grounded and energized. John portrays an overwhelming feeling of excitement and a desire to be more full and expressive in his life. In relation to his past trauma in the previous sessions this desire for life is a huge step in the right direction. John expressed his desire to go home and run in a field and I also shared in the excitement in his physical act of being alive and free.

John recently reached out to me for a follow up appointment after his six sessions. On this follow up session he expressed the changes that naturally occurred in his life. In his personal relationships he became less dependent on his friends, in which he kept close out of fear of being alone, He described a natural separation from friends that have been a negative presence in his life, and a new relationship that had been formed with a person in which he felt a deep and meaningful connection with. From a more personal stand point John described a sense of self-confidence in having tools to manage stress through tracking his feelings and sensations. The biggest and most profound change for John was a simple comfort in his own skin and desire to feel and be himself again. As the practitioner these sessions were deeply meaningful, having been able to work with another young man who had been through so much and was able to fully embrace his healing process. These sessions with John taught me as a practitioner that our body and mind always want to find healing through a greater sense of personal independence a self-connection.
